Uses of Training Pants for Your Kids

Training pants are meant to help a toddler transition from diapers to underpants. Some parents choose disposable training pants to avoid having to wash them. Others prefer cloth training pants because disposable pants will feel like diapers to their toddlers and slow down the training process. Regardless of which type one chooses, parents must properly ascertain that their toddler is ready for training pants in order to promote the child's feeling of confidence.

Step by Step:

~  Determine your child's readiness for training pants. A toddler who is ready for training pants should be    able to use the toilet independently and get dressed or undressed on his own. Training pants would be easier for him to wear and take off by himself.

~  Choose between disposable and cloth training pants. Cloth pants may save parents more money in the long run but disposable pants are more sanitary. Cloth training pants let the child feel when he pees or poops, which helps him learn faster. Disposable training pants feel like diapers, which may lengthen the learning process.

~  Continue with your child's potty training schedule. Some parents believe that their toddlers are potty trained once they switch to training pants. However, most toddlers will have a few accidents in their training pants in the process of getting used to wearing them.

~  Change your child's wet or soiled training pants quickly to avoid diaper rash. There is a popular belief that leaving the wet training pants on will help the child learn to avoid accidents. This could hinder your child's progress.

~  Use training pants until your toddler is used to them. When her training pants have been dry for several days and she is constant with seeking the potty when it's time to pee or poop, then consider switching to underpants.

~  Let your child use training pants at night a little while longer. His control of his bodily functions is much better during the day than it is at night.
